Senate hopeful and former Ilocos Sur Governor Luis “Chavit” Singson has withdrawn from the Senate race. He cited health concern as the reason for his decision after surviving a recent bout against pneumonia.
In a speech before his supporters, that was also streamed live on his social media pages, he said in Filipino,” Mga kaibigan, mahalaga ng maayos ang kalusugan para magpatuloy ako sa pagtulong at magbigay ng saya sa inyong lahat.
The seasoned politician added that he might not be able to handle the rigors of the political campaign sighting his age.
Ayaw kong ipilit. Ang aking kalusugan ay maaring magdusa,” he said.
The 83-year-old politician asked for understanding and forgiveness from all people who backed his decision to run for senator.
“Humihingi po ako ng tawad sa mga nagbigay ng oras, lakas at suporta para sa kampanya,” he said.
Prior to his announcement, Chavit was at the tailend of the two senatorial surveys, he was at no. 21-25 at the recent OCTA Research survey and got similar results in the Pulse Asia Survey.
