There have been numerous complaints about the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) regarding the delayed processing of promised cash assistance for victims of the “balikbayan box scam.” Some claimants have reported waiting nearly two months after submitting their requirements without any clarity on when the assistance will be provided. Additionally, some DMW employees seem unaware of the assistance program, erroneously stating that there is no funding available. Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac refuted these claims, asserting that the DMW has sufficient funds and has even increased the assistance amount to P30,000 per OFW. The delay in processing remains unexplained, and the delivery of balikbayan boxes from Kuwait is also pending due to documentation issues.
