As the temperature in the country starts to soar this months of April to May, Filipinos
tend to find different ways to cool down.
Filipino halu-halo and ice cream are our usual “go to” food during the summer.
But recently, I’ve discovered this cold noodle soup from Korea, which was introduced by
our Korean family friend.
My husband and his Korean friend decided to eat at Kaya, a korean restaurant in
Rockwell Makati. My husband told his friend to order what he would recommend once
we go to visit his country.
One of his orders was this cold noodle soup called Naengmyeon (literally translated as
cold noodles). Noodles are chewy and dark in color (according to wiki, noodles are
made from flour and various starches)
Upon ordering Naengmyeon, its broth is served separately. Broth is chunky clear (from
the freezer) and refreshing. It also comes with chili paste on the side for those who want
their soup a little spicy. Thin slices of cucumber, pear and apples make this soup really
refreshing with egg on top.
From then on, we no longer order our usual order on the menu.
We now prefer ordering Naengmyeon that goes well with Samgyeopsal (grilled pork)
and kimchi especially this hot weather, this soup lessens the feeling of dehydrating heat.
The Koreans brought this menu in the country because, like here in the Philippines,
Koreans consumed this popular dish during the summer.
I highly recommend this tasty cold noodle dish from South Korea.
