Mazda Makes Endurance Racing History with Sweep of 2025 Makabayan Cup

February 13, 2026, Manila Philippines—Mazda made motorsports history by being the first brand to sweep all three legs of the Petron Makabayan Cup. In the process, the #55 Team MSCC Mazda Miata race car set new performance benchmarks proving the MX-5’s balance, reliability, and durability.
Considered as the most challenging endurance circuit race in the Philippines, the Makabayan Cup consists of three legs: the 4-hour Kagitingan Cup, the 12-hour Kalayaan Cup, and the 8-hour Bonifacio Cup. Held at either the Clark International Speedway or the Batangas Racing Circuit, the races honor the historically significant dates they race on.
After seven years, the MX-5 has finally swept the 2025 season. The consistent and competitive participation in the Makabayan Cup is a testament to Mazda Philippines’ “never stop challenging spirit”—the very same ethos that defines Mazda and its motorsports activities globally.
In 2017, Team Mazda Miata competed in a single, one-off race. Its formal entry beginning in the 2019 season marked the evolution of the MX-5’s racing concept, leading to strong performances year after year. In 2022, #55 of Team MSCC Mazda Miata raced in the eye-catching “Imagine” livery, which gave way to a dramatic full carbon-fiber body transformation two years later. In what is considered its ultimate form, a quick-shifting sequential gearbox was introduced in 2025.
All the while, the race car kept its 184 PS, 205 Nm 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G engine completely stock. Despite being down on outright power, by staying true to the MX-5’s core engineering philosophies of nimble handling and perfect mechanical balance, it managed to stay ahead of more powerful, purpose-built race cars.
Aside from sweeping all three legs of the 2025 Makabayan Cup, the #55 Team MSCC Mazda Miata set new lap records across the three legs, including an impressive 2:06.6 lap at the 4.189-kilometer Clark International Speedway.
“The 2025 MSCC Miata Endurance Race Series marks a historic milestone for Mazda Philippines,” says Steven Tan, President of Mazda Philippines. “Our success this year isn’t just about winning a season. It is a culmination of seven years of commitment, refinement, and belief in the MX-5 platform.”
Team MSCC Mazda Miata is backed by Mazda Philippines, with a support team headed by Edgen Dy-Liacco. Behind the wheel is a roster of experienced racers led by Angie King, Windy Imperial, Tyson Sy, Juha Turalba, Matt Solomon and Milo Rivera.
