Driving Awareness Forward: Volvo Supports Road Safety Month

With Human-Centric Safety on the EX30 Core, Volvo pushes for Smarter and Safer Urban Mobility for All Road Users

In observance of the Road Safety Month, Hariphil Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI), the official distributor of Volvo Cars Philippines reinforces its commitment to safer mobility by highlighting the advanced safety technologies of the Volvo EX30 Core; a fully electric compact SUV designed to help protect drivers, passengers, pedestrians, and cyclists in busy urban environments.

Backed by nearly a century of safety leadership and innovation, Volvo continues to uphold its human-centric approach to mobility by placing protection and well-being at the forefront of vehicle development. Despite being Volvo’s most compact SUV to date, the fully electric Volvo EX30 is engineered with the same rigorous safety philosophy and advanced protective technologies that have defined the brand for more than 96 years.

The EX30 earned the maximum 5-star rating from Euro NCAP, one of Europe’s most respected independent vehicle safety testing programs, when it was launched. This recognition highlights the EX30’s ability to help protect not only drivers and passengers but also other road users in demanding urban environments.

Designed specifically for modern city driving, the Volvo EX30 features Volvo’s Safe Space Technology, which uses intelligent systems designed to reduce risks in busy urban and high-traffic environments. EX30 is equipped with advanced driver assistance and collision avoidance systems that continuously monitor the road using front and side radars, as well as a front camera. These systems help detect vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, motorcycles, and scooters in real time, supporting both driver awareness and active intervention when needed.

Key safety features include collision avoidance and mitigation through braking and steering support, helping the vehicle respond to potential hazards ahead. The EX30 also offers pedestrian and cyclist steering avoidance assistance, designed to help reduce the risk of collisions involving vulnerable road users, particularly in complex or low-visibility driving conditions.

For added protection in tight urban spaces, the EX30 is equipped with Rear Cross Traffic Alert with Auto Brake, which detects approaching vehicles and road users, especially when reversing out of areas with limited visibility. This is complemented by Front Cross Traffic Alert, which helps identify crossing traffic in front of the vehicle, further enhancing situational awareness in congested environments.

Among its standout urban safety innovations is the Door Opening Alert, which provides visual and audio warnings when a driver or passenger is about to open a door into the path of passing cyclists or other road users helping prevent common city-road incidents.

According to the Metro Manila Accident Reporting and Analysis System (MMARAS) report, a total of 2,397 bicycle-related road crashes were recorded in 2021 and in year 2025, pedestrians accounted for 27 percent of fatalities in Metro Manila and 12 percent of road crash injuries underscoring their continued vulnerability on urban roads and the urgent need for stronger safety interventions and more protective mobility solutions.

In response to these real-world road safety challenges, Volvo continues to advance technologies that prioritize both occupant protection and the safety of vulnerable road users. Together, these innovations reflect Volvo’s continued focus on safer mobility in today’s increasingly complex urban driving landscape.

“Safety has always been at the heart of every Volvo vehicle,” said Ms. Maria Fe Perez-Agudo, Vice Chairman, President, and CEO of HARI. “With the Volvo EX30, we continue to strengthen our commitment to developing mobility solutions that help protect not only drivers and passengers, but everyone sharing the road.”

This Road Safety Month campaign highlights the importance of making roads safer, particularly in increasingly urbanized communities. Through the Volvo EX30, Volvo Cars Philippines continues to support this global advocacy by promoting intelligent, people-focused mobility solutions that prioritize safety, sustainability, and peace of mind in everyday driving.

To learn more about the Volvo EX30 Core and Volvo’s advanced safety technologies, customers may visit the Volvo Makati dealership to book a test drive or check Volvo Philippines’ official Facebook page volvocarsph.
